Meowtalk: The App That Translates Your Cat's Meows Into Words

Being able to translate the cries of animals into human language, here is an idea that we all had in mind one day. Well, now it is possible with the MeowTalk application which has been enjoying real enthusiasm for a few months. Let me say right away that the application is far from perfect, but the premise is interesting.

Meowtalk, The App That Translates Your Cat's Meows Into Words

MeowTalk, A Cat's Meows translation Into Words was designed by application publisher Akvelon, a company founded by Javier G. Sanchez a former Amazon engineer who notably worked on the development of Alexa. Launched in August 2020, MeowTalk uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to translate your cat's meows into words.

Available on iOS and Android, the application attracted a large audience of curious people during the confinement and was notably found in the top of the most downloaded applications on the Google Play Store with more than 100,000 downloads.

If users are to be believed, the results seem more than uncertain at the moment, but the overall idea is generally pleasing. Like any software that uses machine learning, the application learns from users to develop a database that will strengthen translation proposals.

An application that is far from perfect but which is a first basis for, perhaps in a few years, offering a translation service for the thoughts of our pets. As the engineer explains, each cat has its own “vocalization and meowing vocabulary” and it is more appropriate to understand the emotions that they share than to actually bring them a true equivalent in human words.

And behind this funny idea, obviously, a real “buzz”: treating such a viral subject so seriously inevitably brings visibility and free publicity to the application and to the studio behind it. Clever as a cat!
